At least one tornado struck parts of Nebraska on Friday afternoon, leading to the collapse of an industrial building, injuring at least three people and prompting a widespread emergency response, officials said, a day after tornadoes battered other parts of the Midwest. EVANSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — The first tornadoes ever recorded in Wisconsin in the usually frigid month of February caused more than $2.4 million in damage, officials said Wednesday. The tornadoes that ripped through Rock County on Feb. 8 killed some cattle and hit 30 homes, officials said. One confirmed tornado near Evansville was a “high end” F2, the weather service said. Those tornadoes are described as “significant,” with winds in this particular twister topping out at 135 mph (220 kph). The tornadoes were the first Wisconsin has experienced during the month of February since at least 1950, when records started being kept.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Crews were searching for a Marine Corps helicopter carrying five troops from Nevada to California that was reported overdue early Wednesday, officials said. The Marines were flying a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter from Creech Air Force Base in Clark County, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, the Marine Corps said in a statement. The five U.S. Marines were assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Miramar. CNN —A stronger and longer-lasting atmospheric river event is set to hit California this weekend, bringing a considerable risk for flash flooding, mudslides, damaging winds, and heavy mountain snow. Nearly 40 million people are under flood watches including San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego. In Southern California, widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected – more than a month’s worth of rain for most. A more widespread Level 2 exists for much of coastal California including San Francisco down through Los Angeles. On Monday, the Level 3 of 4 risk expands farther south to include Los Angeles.

☆ Atmospheric River Could Bring ‘Dangerous’ Conditions to Southern California

It could rain for days in Southern California starting on Saturday night, potentially in record amounts, creating the conditions for what the National Weather Service described as a “very dangerous situation” Sunday into Monday. The storm system is also expected to bring several feet of snow to the Sierra Nevada, and powerful onshore winds and intense, damaging surf along the California coast. The effects of this system will begin to be felt in California on Saturday evening, and will last through Tuesday. This atmospheric river will be stronger than the last two. This storm will connect to an atmospheric river, a stream of moisture in the sky that is typically a couple of hundred miles wide and can be seen on satellite imagery.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The first of two back-to-back atmospheric rivers drenched Northern California on Thursday, flooding roads while triggering statewide storm preparations and calls for people to get ready for powerful downpours, heavy snow and damaging winds. Forecasters also said the Central Coast could see waves up to 18 feet (5.4 meters) high on Thursday and Friday. The storm came a week after heavy rain caused flooding that inundated homes and overturned cars in the county.
